You can use mini bulletin board sets even if you are short on wall space by thinking outside of the box. I turned TREND's "Discover Insects" mini bulletin board set into an interactive book. I used the header piece on the cover of my book. To add interest and color to each page I started out by gluing a strip of one of the Discovery trims to each page. I then glued an uppercase and lowercase letter onto each page. I only glued letters that corresponded to the beginning letter for each of the insects in the mini bulletin board set. I glued the labels for each insect onto the appropriate page. The labels will give nonreaders a clue as to which insects belong on each page. I then laminated the pages of my book and laminated the insects separately. After I had trimmed and bound the book, and trimmed the insects, I attached Velcro to the backs of the insects and to the pages of the book. Students will place the insects in the book on the page that corresponds to the first letter in the insect's name.
