Fire Prevention Month Activity

Carol Hartery's Free Activity Tools

Carol's Reproducible Buttons

Carol's Reproducible Fire Extinguisher

October is National Fire Prevention Month.

This is a great time to teach your students about fire safety and prevention. Stop by our Danvers and Stoneham stores to view our collection of fiction, nonfiction, and resource books on fire engines, fire fighters, and fire safety.

3 Little Fire Fighters by Stuart J. Murphy is a fun math book to share with your students.

This Mathstart book introduces young children to the concept of sorting by attributes.

Three firefighters must find matching sets of buttons to complete their costumes for a parade, but how should they sort them?

I created a buttons reproducible (Link to Free Activity Tool above) which can be used by your students to help solve the problem presented in 3 Little Fire Fighters. You can print a set of buttons for each student or print one set, attach magnetic tape to the back of each button, place them on a magnetic board and use them as you read the story.

I have also created a fire extinguisher reproducible for you to use with your students to practice patterning. Print several copies of the reproducible. Color some of the fire extinguishers red and color some of them yellow. You could also just print the reproducible onto some red and yellow copy paper so that you won't need to color them. Cut out the fire extinguishers and glue them in patterns on sentence strips. Example...red, yellow, red, yellow, red. Have students match Unifix cubes to the patterns you have created and then extend the pattern three more times.

Enjoy!
