Chinese New Year's Tangrams
Carol Hartery's Free Activity Tools Carol's Reproducible Buttons Carol's Reproducible Fire Extinguisher
Chinese New Year begins on January 26 this year. In response to the 12 Days of Christmas with Tangrams, I have used tangrams to create a version of the Chinese Zodiac. This is the year of the Ox. I hope that you enjoy.
A vocabulary exercise for upper grades is to have the students assign attributes to the animals in the Chinese Zodiac. Have them stretch their vocabulary as much as possible. When they are finished go to a site such as The Chinese Zodiac Characteristics and compare results. Have them do a compare and contrast essay with their opinion and that of traditional Chinese characteristics.
Enjoy!
